Implant Dentistry
A missing tooth affects more than your smile — neighboring teeth drift, chewing shifts to one side, and the jawbone where the root used to be slowly loses volume. A dental implant replaces the root as well as the tooth, which is what makes it the closest thing dentistry has to growing a new one.
An implant is a small titanium post placed in the jawbone where the tooth root used to be. Over the following months the bone fuses to it, creating a stable anchor for a custom crown — or, when several teeth are missing, for a bridge or a full denture that clips firmly into place instead of resting on your gums.
Good candidates have healthy gums and enough bone to support the implant; when bone is thin, additional preparation may be needed first. If you are living with a loose lower denture, ask about implant-supported dentures — for many patients they restore the confidence to eat and speak without thinking about their teeth.
What implants can replace
- A single missing tooth with an implant crown
- Several missing teeth with an implant bridge
- A full denture stabilized by implants
- The chewing confidence of a tooth that does not come in and out
